After reading Rena Magun’s blog in TOI, entitled, “Dear Trump-supporting friends, We love you and forgive you. Now Apologize” I felt compelled to write my point of view.
For I remembered how naïve the innocent are.
For I was once young, naïve and bled innocence.
My mantra, “Simple solutions are often the best because they’re so easy to grasp.”
Simple solutions are often found buried deep in the bowels of fortune cookies.
Here are four apropos examples:
Don’t forgive until you receive an apology;
Remember actions have consequences;
People don’t forget when you say stupid stuff;
With age some elders acquire wisdom.
So this wise elder is going to try to get you into a deep dive into the mind of a Trump supporter.
Of course, when your going on a deep mental dive, remember to use the Talmudic method of inquiry.
Ask astute questions so you can follow the path of truth.
Let’s give it a go:
Q—How did they get this way?
A—We know they devoured FOX News and Rush Limbaugh on a daily, if not hourly, basis as if they were wolves in a hen-house.
We know, how they fortified their beliefs by reading right-wing articles and blogs on the internet.
We know, they thought that Trump personally tweeted truth to them.
Q—Is there a name for this illness?
A— Head-shrinkers have labeled them: “The Brainwashed” or (TB) for those who love abbreviations.
So you may ask, “What does brainwashed mean?”
Well, let’s go to Merriam-Webster’s:
1 :a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up their basic political, social or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas.
2 :To persuade by propaganda or salesmanship.
The second definition mixed with the first seems more apropos in this Trumpian age:
Q—Is there a cure for their malady?
A—Sad to say, “No.”
The doctors-who-play-with-the-human brain have not been able to cure “the brainwashed” nor prescribe them some red, white or blue pills to wash away their delusions.
So Rena Magan, here’s my summary :
The brainwashed cannot be forgiven.
The brainwashed cannot be loved.
The brainwashed will never apologize.
Why?
Because they’re brainwashed!
Do not waste your time, words or thoughts on the brainwashed.
You’ll have more success knocking down windmills with a lance.
Behind your back the TBs are laughing and snickering at you.
Counting the days until 2024, when they are going to vote for Trump or someone of his ilk.
Don’t be fooled—this headache isn’t magically going to disappear.
Nor will you ever be able to fully trust your so-called “friends” ever again.
