“Blood on Their Hands”—A Mort Laitner Poem

“Blood on Their Hands”—A Mort Laitner Poem

I examined his hand as if I were a detective. [Joyce Fienberg]

Looking for any tell-tale signs of blood under his fingernails. [Richard Gottfried]

Seeing none I shook his hand. [Rose Mallinger]

But I felt an invisible stickiness. [Jerry Rabinowitz]

Excusing myself, [Irving Younger]

I ran to my sink. [Bernice Simon]

Scrub, scrub, scrub away the evidence of his crime. [Sylvan Simon]

More soap, more soap, more soap. [Daniel Stein]

Hot water burns, burns, burns  the outer layer of my skin. [Melvin Wax]

I knew what he did. [Cecil Rosenthal]

And when and why and how the blood got there. [David Rosenthal]
