“The Honor of Books & Books” by Mort Laitner

I stared and smiled at the sign on top of the building “Books & Books.”

That name is neither creative nor inspiring—pretty, pretty bland.

But in South Florida it has cachet.

Ex-presidents speak and sign their books in this literary mecca.

I met Isaac Bashevis Singer, winner of Nobel Prize for literature, at Books and Books.

I still possess and treasure my autographed copy of Enemies, a love story.

Founded and owned by Mitchell Kaplan— one of the founders of

the Miami Book Fair International (The largest literary festival in the country) and

producer of The Man Who Invented Christmas and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel

Society.

As I walked into Mitchell’s bookstore, I scanned the counter.

There it was in bright yellow and black on thick paper—the announcement,

“Authors Showcase Series”

I take one of the flyers, as a smile alights my face.

Books and Books Miami’s premier independent bookseller hawking my book.

Pride fills the air.
