The Second Time Around

UNDER CONSTUCTION

“The Second Time Around”

A Mort Laitner Short Story

My eyes focused in on the one story red brick school house for and signs of remembrance. The last time I saw that edifice was 46 years ago. Then it was new as was I.

The name posted on a red brick wall which faced the street read: “Largo Middle School”.  I was a substitute teacher in that very building. I taught social studies and any other subject they wanted me to teach.

I had not been back to Largo for 46 years. This was my second time around. A chance for closure and a chance to grab memories.

Most of the memories had died in the ether but the building rang a small bell. But don’t all of the seventies middle schools look alike.
