To survive the inconceivable Hell of the Holocaust is amazing.
To survive the inconceivable Hell of the Holocaust is amazing. To be inspirational to others while going thru that Hell, giving them the strength to survive and LIVE is Heroic. Seen, heard and told through the eyes and ears of a young Jewish boy. His journey to adulthood and the influence his Father had on him and others. Many being life changing. This journey of a young man into adulthood and as a adult in a professional career during changing times of racial, religious acceptance, rejection, being either protestors or supporter of a War that divide a country, families and friends. Being eye witness to these accounts and experiencing historical moments. The risk taking while traveling around the world and the results of thought out plans and not so thought out plans of a teenager. Encountering the temptations of a young man and as a husband. Open conversation father to son and the understanding of putting things in list based on priorities, no subject is taboo to end up on one of the lists. Going against the plans of his Father an dreams of his mother and the internal turmoil to make an stick with his decision. Each and everyday thinking of his fathers experience, convictions, stories told and decision made, not asking questions out of fear but more so out of respect not to bring emotions about that are best only to be felt once in a life time. People from chapters of his fathers life coming forward at different times during Mort’s’ life, giving personnel account of Wolf’s actions and words that were simple but in cases could of caused his own death to save another from suffering the daily torment of starvation and mental termination of hope ending in death. Through Mort’s life more knowledge of his fathers actions and experience came forward, bits some times rivers on other occasion’s leading to more questions, that now cannot be answered. Then there is the picture that creates were, why, who, what for questions leading to a plethora of interpretations.
Mort was able to capture more than a life time of mammoth, minimal, heart breaking, soul touching, Jewish family love of life, religious belief, historical accounts and subjects uncomfortable for some taboo for others together in a wistful, thought provoking at times humorist manner. Told this from the eyes and heart of a Hebraic Obsessed son of a more than life like father.
A emotional capturing pleasure to have read and I will do so again.
